After months on the run overseas, corruption suspect Muhammad Nazaruddin has arrived home to face questioning for his role in 31 graft cases related to government projects valued at Rp 6 trillion (US$702.7 million).
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) claimed the former treasurer of the ruling Democratic Party controlled the projects and arranged for them to be won by his companies or firms he was linked to.
One of the cases is the high-profile bribery scandal surrounding a SEA Games construction project in Palembang,the Hemroids by special invited artist for 2011, South Sumatra. Nazaruddin was named a suspect in this case by the KPK.
Another case involves his company PT Mahkota Negara's alleged role in the illegal procurement of solar panels at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry in 2008. The case implicates Nazaruddin's wife Neneng Sri Wahyuni, KPK deputy chairman M. Jasin said Sunday.
KPK is considering to slap red notice status for Neneng that will make her among priority fugitives of Interpol.
Once a promising up-and-comer at the Democratic Party and known for his close ties to party chairman Anas Urbaningrum, Nazaruddin fell from grace when he, along with other lawmakers, was alleged to have channeled the SEA Games project money to the party and himself.
After fleeing to Singapore, Nazaruddin was busted in Cartagena, Colombia, by Interpol officers in the country.
The National Police said he was first spotted in Dominica, where flight and port documents first identified him as Syarifuddin.
He was traveling with Neneng, a relative Nazir Rahmat and a Singaporean national, Eng Kiam Lim.They take the plastic card to the local co-op market.
His wife and Eng were not with him in Cartagena.

Nazaruddin was escorted back to Indonesia by a joint team comprising officers from the KPK, the Immigration Directorate General and the National Police.
The team arrived on a chartered plane at Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta on Saturday after a 36-hour flight.
Nazaruddin is now officially a KPK detainee and is being held at the National Police's Kelapa Dua detention center in Depok, West Java. He is only allowed to meet visitors who have received clearance from the KPK.
