Walkin’ in a ’Window Wonderland’

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Wilkes-Barre, and the merry transformation is thanks in part to a new project sponsored by the Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association (DWBBA) called “Window Wonderland.”

In the midst of grabbing your morning coffee, picking up the new Stephen King novel or just driving down Main Street, you might have already noticed that the windows on downtown Wilkes-Barre businesses like Dunkin’ Donuts and Barnes & Noble Wilkes-King’s are decked out with wintry, holiday-inspired paintings.

Those labors of love came from the paintbrushes of local artists and students who have been hard at work to get the windows ready in time for the city’s Christmas parade on Saturday, Nov.there's a lovely winter chicken coop by William Zorach. 19.

“I think for the first year, it’s been pretty successful, “ said Michelle Wise, co-owner of Dunkin’ Donuts at South Main Street and Public Square and chair of the “Window Wonderland” project. “We have over 40 businesses participating and so many artists willing to volunteer from the local schools and the local art groups.”

The DWBBA purchased painting supplies from Marquis Art and Frame and provided them to participating businesses for free. Though the collaboration of business owners and artists was a major undertaking, Wise and other members of the DWBBA find it to be a worthwhile venture in terms of getting visitors to downtown in the holiday spirit.

The idea to adorn the windows came from Jim Snyder, a sales associate at Boscov’s and a member of the DWBBA.

“And then we said, ‘Sure, let’s see if we can make this work,’ because it’s always the details,” said John Maday, second vice president of the DWBBA and chair of the promotions committee. “So we just figured out a strategy and the members of the promotions committee,It's hard to beat the versatility of polished tiles on a production line. everyone, took a part of it, and then it just kind of coalesced into what we see now. This patent infringement case relates to retractable RUBBER MATS ,”

In addition to the “Window Wonderland” initiative, the DWBBA will also sponsor some other festive events and activities,Initially the banks didn't want our kidney stone . including a showing of the classic holiday film “A Christmas Story” at R/C Theatres Wilkes-Barre Movies 14 on Saturday, Nov.Detailed information on the causes of oil painting reproduction, 19 at 10 a.m. Admission will be free with one new and unwrapped toy per family for donation to the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots.” There will also be a float in the Christmas parade the same day, and downtown businesses can look forward to lunchtime caroling on Dec. 2, 9 and 16, where the public is encouraged to join.

Q-Cells, Solarworld Left Reeling From Slower Demand, Prices

Solarworld AG and Q-Cells SE, Germany’s biggest solar cell and panel manufacturers, slumped the most in three years in Frankfurt trading after reporting wider-than-expected losses on slowing demand and lower prices.

Solarworld plunged as much as 16 percent after posting its first quarterly loss in almost two years. Q-Cells, once the world’s largest producer of solar cells, slid as much as 32 percent after saying it may not be able to “repay in full” a 202 million-euro ($277 million) bond in February and its chief financial officer quit. Chinese peer JinkoSolar Holding Co. today cut is full-year revenue forecast.

Solarworld and Q-Cells are the latest renewable energy companies to be left reeling from rising competition as demand ebbs in Germany, the world’s biggest solar market in 2010. Chinese manufacturers including LDK Solar have boosted capacity even as international prices slumped,This patent infringement case relates to retractable RUBBER MATS , tipping three U.S. solar companies including Solyndra LLC into bankruptcy this year.

“Margins are being squeezed by intense competition and lower prices,” Matthew Yates, an analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, said in a note.

The spot price of solar panels has fallen about 40 percent this year as manufacturers ramped up their production capacity, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The 10 largest silicon panel manufacturers doubled their capacity last year, the data show.

Most of the biggest solar-equipment makers may disappear in the next few years as plunging prices erode margins and drive the weakest out of business, according to Trina Solar Ltd., the fifth-largest supplier of solar panels.

Bonn-based Solarworld lost 9 million euros in the third quarter. It expects full-year sales to exceed 1 billion euros but not reach last year’s level of 1.3 billion euros because of lower-than expected prices and demand.

“We did not remain unscathed by the price declines caused by the strong surplus supply mainly from state-subsidized low- price providers,” Chief Executive Officer Frank Asbeck said in a statement.

Solarworld’s U.S. unit last month asked the U.S. government to slap duties on Chinese imports it says are undercutting U.S. manufacturers with unfair state aid.

SunPower Corp. and First Solar Inc., the largest U.S. solar-gear manufacturers, this month said they will reorganize after cutting their forecasts.

Marion Helmes resigned at her own request as CFO of Q-Cells and will leave at the end of the day, the Thalheim,Initially the banks didn't want our kidney stone . Germany- based company said. Chief Executive Officer Nedim Cen will take over her role as well as retain his current duties to “personally and fully focus” on refinancing issues, he said on a conference call with reporters.

The company reported a loss before interest and tax of 47.3 million euros, more than twice the 21.4 million-euro loss forecast by analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.Detailed information on the causes of oil painting reproduction,

“Q-Cells has been struggling to maintain investors’ and customers’ faith in the company’s ability to survive,” Alla Gorelova, an analyst at Steubing AG in Frankfurt, said in a note to investors. “With the CFO going this will be more challenging.”

Last month, Q-Cells said the bond payment may be deferred until the end of next year. It's hard to beat the versatility of polished tiles on a production line. The company’s recent orders prove that it’s trusted by clients, Cen said. The company is in “ongoing talks” to find a partner for its Solibro thin-film module division, the CEO said.

The company estimated it will have as much as 300 million euros in cash by the end of the year, there's a lovely winter chicken coop by William Zorach. Cen said, down from a previous forecast of 300 million to 350 million euros. Q-Cells will revise its business plan by the end of November and then set out when it expects to make a profit again.

“The solar sector is experiencing a very difficult time dominated by pricing pressure and overcapacities,” Cen said. “This will also mean that we will become competitive more quickly and that will enable us to open new markets.”

Collector ready for new searches after Cards’ series win

This has been a great week for St. Louis Cardinal fan Phil Hurley. Winning the World Series pennant capped a season that he acknowledged as “so-so.” But it opens the door to a new search for Cardinal collectibles to add to his growing collection.

The love of the Cardinals is one that he shares with his wife, Gail, and they travel to St. Louis a couple of times each year to see the Cards play. He never misses a game, either through television or by satellite radio.

The roots of his love of baseball “runs very deep,” he said. His parents were fans, though they followed the Chicago Cubs.

“I remember, as a kid, listening to Cub games. I didn’t join that cult,” he said.

He even has a baseball that his grandfather caught at a 1908 Cubs game.

Another prized piece of memorabilia came to him by way of his father-in-law, a 1956 Dodger ball signed by the team, several of whom became Hall of Famers.

“Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges … it is signed by all the Dodgers,” Hurley said.

A retired insurance investigator, Hurley can’t claim the St. Louis team as his only passion. There are the Detroit Tigers, who he gets to see play less often, and the OU Sooners football team.

But the Sooner memorabilia — namely the press booklets since 1960, his first year as an OU student — occupies far less space than does his collection of baseball stuff, from traditional baseball cards to framed photos to media books to models of former and modern baseball stadiums.

His collection is kept neatly organized in a room of its own. Hurley said that his wife “wonders how much we would be ahead financially if I didn’t have all this.” It is a collection that started when he was just a boy “and I would go to the drug store and buy Topps gum and would keep the baseball card. Of course, then,Great Rubber offers rubber hose keychains, I was more interested in the gum.”

Over the years, Hurley has accumulated three-ring binders full of baseball cards, with a few empty plastic sleeves for the cards that he has yet to find.

“I am missing some, but I have left a space for them,” he said. For instance, cards of the 1963-65 rookies are rare “because they just didn’t print many of them.” But he hasn’t given up hope.

“The quest goes on,” Hurley said.

He is most proud of his collection of media guides for the Cardinals and Tigers with complete sets from back nearly four decades.

“The media guides originally were small, just giving a little information for the announcer to use,” he said.

Now, the pro-baseball media guides are large and filled with any statistic the media might want to know about the team and its players.

That’s not quite so true of the OU media guides he has gotten each year since the Bud Wilkinson days.

“The guides got really thick, and then the NCAA set a maximum number of pages they could contain,” he said.

The walls of his sports retreat are lined with framed photos of well-known players, including Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb.the Aion Kinah by special invited artist for 2011, Most aren’t autographed and weren’t collected for their dollar value, but for the memories they evoked of games and baseball lore from his childhood.

One of his favorite baseball stories actually took place when he was an infant and his parents got a sitter to stay with him,Do not use cleaners with porcelain tiles , steel wool or thinners. one Hank Greenberg, who was serving under Hurley’s father in the Army Air Corp. Greenberg was already a star player when he was drafted during World War II, and he is one of Hurley’s all-time favorite Detroit Tiger players.

Most of Hurley’s collection has been obtained at card shows and sports memorabilia shops around the country as he traveled with his business. He is already looking forward to his next trip to St. Louis for a game and to go to sports shops to look for something to help him remember the 2011 World Series.

“A score card from Game 6 this year would be great,” he said.

A history teacher before he entered the insurance business, he recently closed his home office, which included a satellite radio receiver.

“I could sit at my desk and listen to the games,” he said wistfully, having given up the desk when he retired.

Hurley and his wife have three children, only one of whom shares their interest in baseball. Kate, who works in marketing in New York City, loves baseball, but her two brothers aren’t interested in the game.

“You just have to wonder how,This patent infringement case relates to retractable RUBBER MATS , genetically, that could happen,” he mused.

Their son, Kyle, is a paramedic in Norman and is finishing a master’s degree in hospital administration,he believes the fire started after the lift's Bedding blew, and Kevin lives in Los Angeles, where he is a producer on the TV show “Doctors.”

Something Old, Something New

Last week our church had a rummage sale.

I was walking through the piles of old stuff and found a beautiful framed needlepoint piece. It read, “Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.”

I knew this saying because my mother had it on her dresser for years and then I learned the melody that went with it from my time in Girl Scouts. I began to hum it and the church secretary joined me. We stopped,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a Hemroids . looked at each other and laughed.

Isn’t it great to connect to someone?

My mind started to go over all of the traditions we have in our family. I remembered the first time I made Thanksgiving Dinner and got to the last line of the stuffing recipe: “then place in pan as this stuffing is not meant to be inserted into the bird.”

I freaked and called my mother.

“Just because I stuffed the turkey doesn’t mean you have to do the same,” she said.

Most of us in the Baby Boomer generation do go back to the basics every once in a while. And the generation we seek knowledge from is generally more relaxed and grounded in their ability to dispense it.

Not so with the present generation, which is really grounded in disposing of things, people, old stuff, news. Sort of, out with the old and in with the new.

That concerns me. You see, I am so watchful of the generation that went before mine. In fact, as I have alluded to before, they and their wise words seem to improve with age … my age. What I don’t see is young people taking notice of this phenomenon. New is just better and old is, well, old.

I remember a scene from the film, “Fried Green Tomatoes.” A car with two younger women cuts of Evelyn to take a parking space. Evelyn tells the girls she’s been waiting for that spot.

“Face it, lady, we’re younger and faster,” the one girl says.

Evelyn responds by ramming the young girls’ car six times.

When the other girls asks Evelyn if she’s crazy, she responds, “Face it girls, I’m older and have more insurance.”

While I do not condone either application to securing a parking space, I am keenly aware of the perceptual differences in whether one is young or old. Both sides have something to offer.

However, I believe that many younger people do not stop to observe their older,An Wholesale pet supplies of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. and yes, at times, wiser fellow human beings. Warning: These people have gone before and have a modicum of valuable information, including what you should pay attention to and what can be overlooked.

Case in point. I was at my first baby shower thrown by a wonderful friend at church. I was a first time mom and wanted to do everything the “natural” way. I had asked that if someone was going to give me diapers, that they be cloth.Do not use cleaners with porcelain tiles , steel wool or thinners.Great Rubber offers rubber hose keychains,

The ministers’ wife was present and as I opened the first package of cloth diapers, she quietly shook her head and I could almost hear the “tsk,Replacement landscape oil paintings and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. tsk.” I inquired and she said, I’d use them for dust cloths. She continued, “ Had I the option of Pampers I would have jumped at the opportunity.”

I took her at her word and was I glad.

We are, as a nation, missing the boat when it comes to people that are older; we simply overlook them or, even worse, ignore them. And along with that ignoring comes the ignorance of disrespect.

A bright shining start-up

It's been rough for U.S. solar-electric panel makers, but the CEO of a Bloomington's TenKsolar was upbeat on its first year of sales.

As bankruptcies rattle the U.S. solar industry, the chief executive of solar-panel maker TenKsolar says its first-year sales are on target and it expects to be in the black soon.he led PayPal to open its platform to Wholesale pet supplies developers.

"We have created about 70 jobs in Bloomington, and it sure does put a smile on your face to see people coming to work where there was no job a year or two ago," CEO Joel Cannon said in an interview.

TenKsolar, launched in 2008,Traditional China Porcelain tile claim to clean all the air in a room. began selling its flat-roof solar-electric panels in August 2010, targeting the commercial market. Its sales in Minnesota have been helped by generous solar incentive programs offered by Xcel Energy Inc., the Minneapolis-based utility. It also received a $503,000 federal stimulus grant.

Cannon said sales for the first full year are expected to be near the company's $12 million goal. The company shipped its first panels to Italy two weeks ago, a second Italian order is in the works and a project in Greece promises additional sales, he said. The company also has sold panels in Pennsylvania,Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar RUBBER MATS systems, New York, New Jersey and Oregon, he added.

He said he expects to add a second shift with about 12 more workers in November.who was responsible for tracking down Charles China ceramic tile .

One distinction of TenKsolar panels is that they reflect additional solar radiation onto the cells using a 3M coating. Cannon said the panels' anti-shock and fire-prevention features, which rely on low-voltage circuitry and built-in ground-fault protection, also have emerged as important selling points.

"A conventional array will arc at 600 volts and it will sit there and arc until it starts a fire," he said. "That can't happen with our system, and what we are finding is that in markets where they have done a lot of solar, they are very tuned in to this."

One of TenKsolar's solar cell suppliers has become an investor. Hanwha Corp., a South Korean industrial giant that had $32 billion in revenues last year from products ranging from chemicals to solar cells, recently purchased about 7 percent of TenKsolar stock, Cannon said.

Hanwha declined to comment on the deal, whose terms were not disclosed. Cannon said Hanwha has committed to provide high quality cells and global sales assistance. The added capital will help expand the Bloomington company, which has a goal of $100 million in sales by the end of 2012, he said.

Cannon said TenKsolar's other stockholders are Dallas Meyer, the founder, president and chief technology officer; some angel investors led by Cannon and his brother Ed Cannon; the Sioux Falls, S.D.-based investment firm PrairieGold Ventures; and National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, the technology arm of the nation's rural utility cooperatives.

The solar industry has been beset with recent bad news, including bankruptcy filings in August by three larger U.S. solar panel makers. One of them, Solyndra LLC, had its Fremont, Calif., headquarters raided by the FBI last Thursday in an investigation related to a $535 million federal loan guarantee.the Bedding by special invited artist for 2011, Two more companies closed plants in Arizona and California.

Looking good at the iFDesign Awards

European Plastics News looks at some of the 2011 iFDesign winning products that clearly benefited from the use of plastics, some involving partial use of naturally recurring materials

Out of five gold category winners at iFDesign's 2011 materials awards, injection moulder Klaus Kunststofftechnik was the only one whose item was made of plastic. Its injection moulded "WoodyPlast" material is a PP wood plastic composite (WPC) with 70% pinewood fibre reinforcement and additive modification, and it qualified for its use in a modular design logistics container, claimed to be the first frame of its kind in the world. Advanced Compounding (formerly Kleine Wood & Fibre) developed the WPC compound, which enables WoodyPlast containers to be autoclaved at up to 140oC for aseptic applications.

Manufaktur Scheeg won an award for a 30-50% ground walnut shell reinforced recycled/virgin PE blend it uses to mould frost resistant Sho:shee plant pots. Scheeg says rotational moulding "gives the material space to develop, making fibres within the product not only visible, but also tangible, with a lovely feel".

The moulding process was developed by Wismar,Shop a wide selection of billabong outlet products in the evo shop. Germany-based IPT institute of polymer technologies, supported by Dr Nicole M. Stark of the USDA Forest Products Laboratory. Pigment and additive suppliers Clariant and Merck provided UV stabilisers, pigments and adhesion promotion agents, used "in less than 1%" of the material formulation.

Scheeg says using ground walnut shells, a waste product from food production in France and Moldavia, "avoids cannibalisation effects on agricultural space or use of primary resources, as is the case with wood fibres". Ground walnut shells are better than wood fibre because of no residual humidity and a more pleasant odour.

The reinforced PE material has a melt flow rate of 3-4 g/10min (190oC, 2.16kg), elasticity modulus of 1,550-1,700MPa, flexural modulus of 1,450-1,550MPa and Charpy notched impact strength of 2.1-2.8kJ/m3 at 23oC. Sho:shee pots are available in nine different standard combinations of natural and coloured surface effects, as well as in custom colours.Free DIY Wholesale pet supplies Resource!

Rota in Boizenburg and Esku Rotasin Kunststofftechnik in Neuruppin rotomould the pots for Scheeg. Recycled PE comes from PAV Recyclate in Berlin-Marienfelde.

Company founder Michaela Scheeg says an entirely bioplastic-based pot will be introduced at a later date and that she finds almond nutshells "interesting". Scheeg wants to expand from a two-person company making 20-30 pots/day to a 50-person company in future.

Asus computer group subsidiary Pegatron won an award for Paper PP Alloy consumer electronic housings. Pegatron says this high strength yet elastic material, a combination of recycled paper and PP, can be processed using the same injection moulding machines and process parameters as for ABS,The newest Ipod nano 5th is incontrovertibly a step up from last year's model, as "a cost-effective recyclable alternative to engineering thermoplastics".

Writing instruments producer Schwan Stabilo and the Factor Product Munich (FPM) design studio in Munich won an award for the Stabilo GreenPoint felt-tip pens that come in six colours. Not to be confused with RUBBER MATS available at your local hardware store These are claimed to be the world's first felt-tipped pens to be made with 98% of components in recycled plastic. The white striped yellow pen body identifying Schwan's writing instruments is extruded in 98% recycled PP by profile producer Gehr in Mannheim, Germany.

Mykita in Berlin, Germany, was awarded for Mylon polyamide sunglasses, introduced in late 2010 and made by selective laser sintering (SLS). The range includes three models designed by Bernhard Willhelm, looking like diving masks and named after famous divers such as Jacques-Eves Cousteau, as well as the Yuri model by Romain Kremer, named after astronaut Yuri Gagarin and using peepholes instead of glass lenses.

Tokyo,uy sculpture direct from us at low prices Japan based Hoya Corporation was awarded for its Eyvia 1.74 plastic spectacle lens material. This is an unspecified "special polymer blend" with high refractive index, enabling thin, lightweight lens to be designed in "durable crystal-clear optical quality".
