Once the building is completed, students at College of the Redwoods will have a grassy knoll to relax on and a patio where they can study. The college will begin construction on the $32.5 million academic complex Tuesday.
According to the college, the project is funded by $29.2 million in state money and $3.3 million in local Measure Q bond funds.Prior to RUBBER SHEET I leaned toward the former,
Project manager Wayne Nadon said the approximately 63,500-square-foot complex will consist of two buildings with smart classrooms, three lecture halls and science labs. There will also be space for offices and conference rooms, Nadon said.
"They will be two-story structures, and they will honor the existing structures with similar color metal roofing," he said. "These buildings will be energy efficient with lighting and (the ventilation system) all run by computers."
Nadon said the building's finish will be constructed out of refurbished redwood from old wharfs and older buildings in the area that were made out of old-growth redwoods.
