The Concord City Council will hold a public hearing Monday night on a proposal that would allow residents to raise a limited number of chickens in their backyards.
Under current city rules, chickens can't be kept on properties less than an acre in size. But under the proposed zoning amendment, up to five chickens could be kept at a single-family home that sits on less than an acre of land.
The property would still need to meet the minimum lot size for its neighborhood, which Zoning Administrator Craig Walker said range from 7,500 square feet in dense neighborhoods like the South End to two acres in outlying areas of the city. Chickens couldn't be kept on smaller lots, or at apartment buildings.
Only female chickens would be allowed; roosters would be barred, as would geese,They take the China Porcelain tile to the local co-op market. turkeys and other manner of fowl. The hen house or coop would have to be at least 30 feet back from the property line, and manure would have to be removed or stored in an enclosed container.
Chicken owners couldn't sell their eggs. And, Walker said, while chickens could be kept for meat, "you'd have to have it slaughtered off-site.Boddingtons Technical Plastics provide a complete plastic injection moulding service including design,"
Similar "urban chicken" laws have been proposed or adopted in recent years in other communities. Walker said Concord's proposed rules are based in part on a domesticated chickens law enacted in South Portland,Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet, Maine, in 2007.
"The argument for chickens right now are, people want to have a natural, organic supply of eggs," Walker said, as well as a desire to let city children learn to care for the animals.
But when the planning board discussed the proposal in October, concerns were raised about the potential for eyesores and neighbor complaints, according to the meeting minutes.
"Nuisance issues are a concern," Walker wrotIf so, you may have a cube puzzle .e in an Oct. 26 report to the city council. "Male chickens, roosters, are not permitted because of the potential nuisance noise for surrounding residences. . . . The chickens must be kept within enclosed areas and not be allowed to roam free to both prevent the chickens from trespassing onto other people's property and to protect the chickens from predators.Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar Air purifier systems,"
The planning board recommended that the city council hold a public hearing, enact design standards for coops and that the program be reviewed after 18 months.
The proposal going before the city council Monday also removes ducks from the city's list of legal household pets. Dogs, cats, tropical birds, fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, white mice, rabbits and turtles would still be permitted indoors.
"For some reason, ducks were on that list," Walker said. "But it stands to reason, if you're not going to allow any other fowl in the house, why would you allow ducks?"
