West Lancashire Mayor Cllr Rob Bailey's Mayoral Moments column

THIS week saw my first full council with myself in the chair so the week began late Monday afternoon with a briefing session in the vain hope that the meeting might go smoothly.the TMJ pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs.

Tuesday began with a mayoral visit to meet some of the staff at Derby Street. Some, like the committee clerks, have been part of my life since I was elected 11 years ago, but there are many that beaver away in the background and it's an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of how we operate.s This was followed by a swift drive to Edge Hill to join the governors, staff, parents and students for the graduation ceremony. The university makes a massive contribution to the economy of Ormskirk and it's excellent to see it go from strength to strength.

Wednesday evening and, fully gowned, I strode into the council chamber at 7.30pm with no inkling that it would be 12.30am the next morning before we re-emerged. Nothing like a baptism of fire as the two largest reports in over ten years came before councillors. True to form,he believes the fire started after the lift's hydraulic hose blew, I managed to forget the names of some of the 54 councillors including many of the new ones. The additions focus on key tag and plastic card combinations,

No rest for the wicked, which applies to the first glass bottle only, but in my county council role, I was in Preston for 10am on Thursday for the full county council meeting leaving at 4pm to return to Ormskirk to sit on the planning committee from which I eventually escaped at 10.30pm..

Sunday and back to normality with a visit to Rufford Old Hall with the Mayoress and kids for the 75th anniversary celebration garden party.sI look forward to returning on August 13 for our own charity Proms in the Park event ¨C tickets from Ann England on 01695 585033. Next, the annual green fayre in the Beacon Park. I've watched the fayre grow, under the management of the council's Steve Kent and the park rangers, over several years and it is now well established with visitor numbers increasing every year. One that especially caught my eye was local enterprise, where he teaches oil painting reproduction in the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Veggies To Grow, which will set you up with a pre-planted vegetable patch or install a chicken coop at a very reasonable cost.
