The work was conducted under Tunajali (We care),From standard Cable Ties to advanced wire tires, a programme funded by the United States President's Emergency Plan for Aids and the US Agency for the International Development.

"The modern hospital laboratory equipment we provide to rural health centres need electricity to be operated, and since there is no electricity from the national grid, we have decided to install solar panels to run the equipment efficiently," said the programme head, Dr Gottlieb Mpangile.
"We have also installed solar power to all staff members belonging to these health centres as a motivation to them."
Various pieces of equipment have also been provided to the centres.
Residents in areas where solar power has been installed have commended Tunajali and Americans for lighting up the health centres and their continuous support."We are very grateful with this support because it has saved us from using kerosene lamps in our health centres," Ms Anna Ambonisye, told this paper.
Tanzania is estimated to have a total area of 945,000 square kilometres and about 44 million people — 80 per cent of whom live in rural areas.However, only one to two per cent of the rural dwellers get electricity.
