Surviving the Solar Downturn in Spain

The Spanish solar sector experienced a period of great growth between 2006 and 2008. But the Spanish market was sharply paralyzed by the Government when it drastically reduced premiums, set a maximum annual quota of just 500MW, and limited the number of hours for which solar energy generation would be funded. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! In many cases, these limitations affected investments that had already been made because it meant that the PV installations would not be amortized according to plan, thus creating a climate of distrust.

Our leaders of today had an opportunity to promote the Spanish solar sector, which would have reduced imports of fossil fuels, reduce emissions of CO2, increase the gross domestic product (GDP) and generate employment. Countries such as Germany, with much less irradiation, have now consolidated photovoltaic markets and are installing over 5GW per year, allowing businesses to grow, reducing costs year after year,Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, and they adapting to the gradual reductions in premiums. As a result, German investors and customers are enjoying a stability that allows trust and as a result, the financing of projects.

With the shift in support for solar in Spain, Spanish solar companies were wise to seek new markets. Fortunately some solar companies were already doing business beyond Spanish borders. Zytech Solar, for example, is a manufacturer of photovoltaic modules, and it had subsidiaries in Germany and France and had started its commercial activity in Latin America. What they found as a result of the downturn in the Spanish market was that their customer base shifted from 90% in Spain in 2010 to only 10% coming from Spain in 2011—truly a move toward internationalization.

It is important for corporate policy-makers to recognize that a change of mindset is required across the enterprise to make the leap toward internationalization. Jumping from a share of exports of 10% to 90% in a single year, for example,Now though, there is a new trend which originates from Japan called zentai. Zentai means 'full body' in Japanese and this new fashion trend involves wearing lycra zentai suits as a form of pleasure or relaxation.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains,he believes the fire started after the lift's Wholesale pet supplies blew, gives a company more structure, more flexibility, and makes it more diversified in its own workforce and in its understanding of the global marketplace. At Zytech Solar, more than 50% of the workforce now comes from various Spanish nationalities. Enrique Zueco, president of Zytech, emphasizes the value of the component in new markets, "Because it is an advantage to know the different idiosyncrasies in each country and adapt to their particular characteristics as soon as possible".

When dealing with new markets the three keys are flexibility, agility, and adaptability. It’s necessary to have a versatile production structure that enables the company to adapt to the specific needs of each project. In Zytech’s move into Latin America, the facilities it set up are isolated, but its experience with off-grid solar as well as the depth of its supplier network has enabled the company to move into new areas and be successful.

Businesses share ‘green’ initiatives

Local businesses are taking the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce and B.C. Hydro Power Smart Conservation Challenge from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31.

The program, the first in the province, focuses on workplace conservation, and highlights the importance of employee education.

Three businesses and Green Step, a Kelowna-based energy and green advisor company, made presentations about what they are already doing, and offered ideas for the future at the Using the Right Framework for Sustainability breakfast meeting Sept. 1.

"You are all leaders in this city for your interest in energy conservation and the environment," chamber of commerce manager George Duffy told attending business owners and representatives of area organizations.

Dave Weatherill, owner of Briteland, discussed products his company has developed to help businesses become greener.

"There has been a world-class paradigm shift in how people look at the environment," he said. "We shred all our outdated files and give them to chicken producers for bedding which is eventually composted and put back into the land. But that's just the start.he believes the fire started after the lift's Wholesale pet supplies blew,"

With traditional hot composting, he explained, 35 per cent of the pile goes back into the atmosphere as carbon gases and methane. Weatheril has been working with vermiculture (using worms to cold compost food waste with no odours or gases) at Seaton Secondary School, where students use the project in a variety of ways, developing products for sale. The new Bokashicycle, an anaerobic, acidic fermentation process for all organic waste, used at the IPE last year, is the subject of a film by Bruce Mol.

"It can take a steak bone to soil in two weeks,If any food China Porcelain tile condition is poorer than those standards," said Weatherill, who is working with the City of Chicago on recycling food waste. He is making environmentally friendly cleaning products for everything from electronics to mill equipment and train locomotives, to plumbing grease traps, all being used locally.

"We want to keep enjoying the beautiful place up there for a long time to come so we are taking a lot of initiatives, large and small,Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too.” said Robin Baycroft of Silver Star Mountain Resort. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! “We get our soap and shampoo from a local business and all the food and beverage containers are bio-degradable. People now have the option of beeswax product for their skis. We are also reducing our printed products, electricity use and fuel consumption. We are revegetating and constructing to stop erosion. We want to make sure there's memories to be made for many more years up at Silver Star.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains,"

Tolko Industries, with operations in Canada's four western provinces and head office in Vernon, was the recipient of the 2008 B.C. Hydro PowerSmart Employee Awareness Program award.

"We are an environmentally responsible and innovative company," said Bob Fleet, vice-president of environment and forestry. “We are a member of the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement which brings together companies and environmental agencies to work together for the highest value and sustainability of forest resources."

GOING WILD IN THE WEST

IF YOU'RE planning a nice quiet weekend away you can forget it if you head to the wild north west.

For after an action-packed two day break in Sligo I felt like I was in need of a good rest. I was buzzed so close by a flying eagle I could feel its feathers brush my face, acted the surfer dude on the rolling waves of Strandhill and braved force seven winds to fish for my own dinner.

I must shamefully admit it was my first time visiting Sligo - I'd always gone over to the west like Clare and Mayo or on the Shannon or else swung north to Donegal. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! I just seemed to bypass this stunning county,he believes the fire started after the lift's Wholesale pet supplies blew, but I won't do it again.

Dominated by the massive Ben Bulben and other sheer limestone ranges, Sligo town nestles in a lovely setting in its own bay and on either side of it are the resorts of Rosses Point and Strandhill just a few miles away, so everything is within easy reach.

The town centre is quite compact with streets brimming with pubs and good restaurants and being the home ground of Westlife there's a thriving live music scene in many of the bars.Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too.

And the good news is it's just a shade over two hours drive from Dublin's M50, a perfect jaunt for your own Sligo weekender.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains,

After our overcast summer you can bet that as soon as the kids go back to school the sun will be splitting the stones, so when the skies clear you can take them away on that treat you had been promising over the school hols.

My quick break with the missus,Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, teenage son and his cousin, started even before I hit town at the Eagles Flying centre just off the Galway to Sligo road.

Owner Lothar, a retired German scientist created this sanctuary which includes many rescued injured birds and helpless wildlife, an exotic petting zoo and more than 100 birds of prey.

He puts on an outdoor live show in a seated arena first explaining how the birds live and hunt and then has them zooming through the audience from one keeper to another.

We got right up close to the wild side of nature as hawks and merlins, even giant Himalayan vultures and massive white-tailed eagles, swooped through the guests and brushed by their heads.

Some children even got a deadly buzz with the smaller hunting birds landing on their arms to feed off bits of chicks. Parents got so close they could photograph the eye of an eagle or brush the soft feathers of a huge eagle owl.

Afterwards the petting zoo seemed a bit tamer but Lothar had some strange animals on show like a pot-bellied pig, albino hedgehog and a playful raccoon.

Back on the road to Sligo we were heading to the surfing centre at Strandhill but stopped off just overlooking the town at The Venue, a top notch seafood restaurant and bar which also does a roaring trade with music sessions at the weekends.

We feasted on crab claws, chowder, fish cakes, prawns and fresh plaice and all the while had incredible views over the whole bay. Well fed, we were ready for our next challenge at the Strandhill Surf Centre at the corner of the pretty seaside resort.

ITE Alliance works to help business

John Valdes spent about a year trying to make a connection to Mercer University's engineering school, sending letters about his solar energy business to various professors with limited success.

Then, he met a Mercer student who put him on to a new partnership between the college and the College Hill Alliance called the KITE Alliance -- Knowledge Innovation Technology Entrepreneurship.

It's a strategic plan designed to find fledgling companies and act as an enabler for them by offering Mercer's resources to companies that need them. The idea, said Pat Madison, executive director of the College Hill Alliance, is to bring economic development to Macon by attracting companies that will bring 21st century jobs to the College Hill Corridor and downtown Macon, which in turn will either attract new talent to the area or help keep local college graduates here.

The concept fits in nicely with a goal the College Hill Corridor Commission came up with when it first formed: how to keep people in Macon.

"We were having a lot of success in the corridor with housing and lifestyle," Madison said. "But the question was, ‘how do we sustain that long term?' .Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,.. The future of downtown and the small businesses (in Macon) is economic growth. We started to look at the numbers, and the economy hit us hard. Where we lost the numbers was in manufacturing, retail, trade and construction -- many jobs that were not likely to come back."

Madison said research showed that Macon lost more than 7,000 jobs from 2007 to November 2010, mostly because of the recession.

Where job growth was taking place was in the fields of health care, education and technology. In addition,Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! local business development groups such as the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the Urban Development Authority and the Macon Economic Development Commission are more focused on attracting businesses from outside of Middle Georgia into the area rather than growing them from within.

"No one was doing anything to promote new ideas, new businesses in tech-oriented fields," he said. "We wanted to take Mercer University's (resources) -- how do we position it to be an entrepreneurial driver?"

Scott Schultz, an associate professor of engineering at Mercer,Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, took Madison to Schultz's alma mater of North Carolina State University, which is the home to Centennial Campus, a partnership between North Carolina State and businesses designed to use that college's resources to grow new companies and help existing companies expand.

The KITE Alliance ultimately came out of that same concept.

"Pat and I put our heads together and built the concept," Schultz said. "We had a shared vision where we shared the whole idea of initiating some kinds of business activity with Mercer University serving as a major player."

Cliffard Whitby, chairman of the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, said KITE fills a need in the community.

"What the College Hill Alliance has done is show innovative leadership and has shown the needs in the community," he said. "It relates to thinking outside the box and opens up opportunities that don't exist currently. ... I certainly see this as a key part of future economic development in our community."

Valdes' company, Solar Integrated Products, became the first company to take advantage of KITE's resources.

Valdes said his company's plan is to use existing solar energy technology and make it more portable, versatile and durable. The idea is to help organizations such as the United Nations, the Red Cross and FEMA take solar panels to disaster sites and set them up to generate power.

"But I didn't have a full-fledged machine shop," Valdes said, adding that he also wanted help from the school's faculty and students.

Though still early in the process, so far it's looking to be a perfect fit as Valdes brought in a Mercer student to work part-time for the company.

Schultz said that will be a key part of the strategy, with students from Mercer and other Middle Georgia colleges getting internships and part-time jobs with the startups that could turn into full-time jobs as the companies grow.

Mercer President Bill Underwood said Macon is perfectly placed with its location and resources to attract new, developing companies.

"We have some engines for economic growth if someone wants to take advantage," he said. "We have tremendous transportation access, secure water, excellent health care and a full array of higher education opportunities. We need to find new ways to take advantage of The Medical Center (of Central Georgia) and Mercer University as economic drivers. Hopefully,he believes the fire started after the lift's Wholesale pet supplies blew, as businesses grow, they will begin to provide jobs in the community. That's exactly what we're trying to do, to bring in knowledge-based businesses."

And those jobs, Madison said, are what will keep recent and future college graduates in Macon.

"The goal is to get opportunities for students by creating jobs in Macon (for them) to stay in Macon," he said. "We need the next generation of leaders to stay in the community. If the young people exit the community, what are we left with?"

Consider green options

When you buy a new house, before it's built,Traditional kidney stone claim to clean all the air in a room. you get to choose from the variety of styles and floor plans the builder offers,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! as well as options and upgrades on details and finishes. Depending on the builder, sometimes the options and choices of upgrades are very limited. Most times, those options are limited to finishes. Rarely do they offer green upgrades, or upgrades on what matters most: what's behind the walls.

A lot of builders and building companies have model homes, or even a design centre you can visit to help you decide on the finishes and upgrades you might want to add. What's on display is always finishes. It's never the insulation,he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers. the drywall or tile underlayment. You'll never see air purifiers on display or added as an extra appliance.

Energy Star appliances are standard now with new homes, and they are built to minimum code standards with regard to construction, building envelope, insulation.

But what about green upgrades?

Some leading green builders offer features such as solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) and solar hot-water pre-heating rough-ins for those who want that option. And lots are coming on board with low/no VOC paints, and maybe some bamboo flooring.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, But that's about it, I'm sad to say.

That's all driven by consumer demand. Builders will build what sells, so it's up to you to demand upgrades that will really increase the value of your home.

What do homebuyers think is important when they invest in their new homes?

Everyone is concerned about indoor air quality, and the effects of mould and allergens on their families' health. But how many people are even aware of the upgrades they can have that will improve that indoor air quality? The type of insulation you choose, the type of cabinets and flooring, all contribute to the indoor air quality. What about adding an air-purifying system or premium HEPA filtration to your HVAC?

Some people will advise you to choose your upgrades based on future resale of your home. That's fine, but who's to say a brushed nickel faucet will still be fashionable when your home goes on the market? Will cherry cabinets be in, or will painted wood? Is your money better spent on a granite countertop or on a properly insulated basement and attic?

A finished basement is a popular one. But for me, this is one of the real traps of a 'builder upgrade.' Guaranteed: If you opt for this upgrade, you will have a basement finished to minimum code. That's all that's required. And that will be a complete waste of your money - in either a short time or a slightly longer time - when you need to tear everything out because it's tainted with mould.

Conventional wisdom says that spending your upgrade money on kitchen and bathrooms will repay you. But I say that every penny you invest in an upgrade that improves your home's efficiency will repay you, too.

I say, when your budget is limited - and whose isn't? - spend your upgrade money on the places you can't get to later: behind the walls. You can always upgrade a standard finish to something pricier later, if you want to. But you can't easily change your insulation or the underlayment beneath your tiles or replace your standard drywall with mould-resistant.

The consumer decisions always seem to be: Do you want the premium kitchen cabinets or the standard? Do you want a granite countertop or laminate? What kind of tile do you want in the bathroom?

People spend hours discussing choices of light fixtures, door handles, cabinet hardware, plumbing fixtures, paint colour,Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too. crown moulding and style of baseboards. Who cares? Seriously.

What about the level of insulation - code or above code? What kind of insulation - blown-in cellulose batt, or spray foam? How good are the windows? Are they high-performance? BluWood or standard? Mould-resistant drywall or standard?

Can you choose sustainably sourced hardwood for your flooring?

Ask the questions. Make the right choices on your upgrades.

Hyundai Heavy Sees $300 Million Sales From China Turbine Plant

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's largest shipyard, expects annual sales of as much as $300 million from a wind-turbine factory in China as it bolsters clean-energy units to pare a reliance on making vessels.

The plant in Weihai in the eastern province of Shandong will open in October and may post at least $50 million of sales next year, Kim Kweon Tae, head of the company's low-carbon energy business, said in an Aug. 31 interview in Ulsan, South Korea.Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too. The sales may jump sixfold by 2015, he said.

"China is a market you can't ignore," Kim said. "There will be a lot of competition but we plan to offer better quality and services."

The shipyard may also make acquisitions to boost its solar- power business, he said, as it invests in low-carbon energy amid rising competition from cheaper shipbuilders in China. The company aims to raise clean-energy sales to 4 trillion won ($3.8 billion) in 2016 from about 600 billion won last year,Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, he said.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains,

"There is a limit to how much shipyards can grow by relying heavily on one product," said Cho In Karp, head of research at Heungkuk Securities Co. in Seoul. "In the long term, this is the way to go because fossil fuels will eventually run out."

Shanghai Wind Farm

Hyundai Heavy will next year use the new factory to bid for work on an offshore wind farm planned off Shanghai, Kim said without elaboration. The China plant, which will be able to make 300 2-megawatt turbines annually, will also eventually be used to tender for projects in Southeast Asia, he said.

The company may also finish developing a 5.5-megawatt turbine, suitable for offshore wind farms, next year, Kim said. It is studying a plan to develop a 10-megawatt unit.

Hyundai Heavy, which also builds power stations and makes excavators, dropped 4.5 percent to 329,000 won at 11:56 a.m. in Seoul trading. It has fallen 26 percent this year, compared with a 9.5 percent decline in South Korea's benchmark Kospi index.

China, the world's largest wind-power producer, plans to increase offshore wind power capacity to 5 gigawatts by 2015 and to 30 gigawatts by 2020, according to China's National Development and Reform Commission.

The country has about 340 megawatts of offshore capacity now and may only reach 4.5 gigawatts by 2015, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. That compares with plans to install 20 gigawatts onshore this year, it said.

China aims to generate 20 percent of its energy from non- fossil sources in 2020 from about 9.6 percent last year amid efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Solar-Power Takeovers?

Hyundai Heavy, which also makes polysilicons used in solar cells and solar-panels, may consider buying other clean-energy companies as there are too many suppliers, which is causing prices to fall, Kim said.he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers.

"We are open to opportunities for takeovers in the solar- energy business," he said. "We have been approached, but we aren't in a rush."

The company will also begin work on a wind-farm project in Pakistan after winning certification for its 1.65-megawatt and 2-megawatt wind turbines, Kim said. Det Norske Veritas is due to approve the equipment this year, he said. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! The turbines will be made in South Korea and in the China plant, he said.

Market Makers 'A dream, not reality'

GETTING broker/dealers or the Government to act as 'market makers' for initial public offerings (IPO) they have brought to market is "a dream more than a reality", RoyalFidelity Merchant Bank & Trust's president has told Tribune Business, as there is "no profit in it".

While acknowledging that low liquidity levels in the Bahamian equities market were preventing retail investors from easily existing their investments,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! Michael Anderson said there was not enough "reward" to incentivise investment banks and broker/dealers into playing this role.

Rather than have these companies act as 'purchasers of last resort', the RoyalFidelity president suggested that the way to overcome the lack of liquidity was to "broaden and deepen" the Bahamian equities market by expanding shareholder bases and the number of active trading participants.

He was responding to Tribune Business columnist Richard Coulson, who in an August 23 article urged Bahamian retail investors to avoid both the $37 million Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) IPO, and the more immediate $8 million Arawak Cay port offering, unless either their financial advisers/placement agents or the Government committed to act as 'market makers'.

In this role, they would buy shares when retail investors were unable to find a purchaser on the Bahamas International Securities Exchange's (BISX) market,Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, providing both liquidity and price support.

"They're all 'nice to be's'," Mr Anderson said in response to the suggestions in Mr Coulson's column.Polycore Floor tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, "It would be great if those arrangements were put in place, but it's a dream more than a reality.

"In this small market, you're never going to have people picking up and putting money behind the deal. The nature of the market is never going to reward people for that - taking the risk, putting up the capital, and acting as purchaser of last resort. It's not a realistic assumption.

"We're not a trading market,Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too. we're an investment market.he led PayPal to open its platform to Cable Ties developers. It's just not realistic. It [market makers] is not where we are at the moment, and it's not going to change in the near term." This reflects that most Bahamian investors 'buy and hold' their securities investments, rather than looking to actively trade them.

Mr Anderson told Tribune Business that RoyalFidelity "got out of the market making business six years ago because there was no profit in it.

"If you took BISX prices, why would you ever do it? You can't price the risk into the transaction." For 'market makers', the deal could "go one way or another", depending on which way listed stocks moved, and there was too much risk and uncertainty involved as to whether they would ultimately make a profit.

The RoyalFidelity president added that the investment bank had played the 'market maker' role prior to the creation of the formalised BISX market structure, when the Bahamian securities market was an 'over-the-counter' model, "because people were doing it at the price they wanted to do it".

Meanwhile, Mr Anderson hinted that Mr Coulson's views could be self-defeating. By warning retail investors against buying into the upcoming IPOs, the Royal Fidelity president indicated the article acted against the very deepening and broadening of the Bahamian capital markets - something he sees as essential to curing the liquidity ills.

"At this stage of the market's development, it is kind of limited in that there is not enough liquidity, and people take longer than they'd like to get out of securities," Mr Anderson conceded to Tribune Business.
